What is a lockdown?
A lockdown is a measure taken in response to a threat directly to a school or surrounding community. In a lockdown all activities are moved indoors, interior and exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building.
Because learners are at home does not mean that a lockdown shouldn't be practiced. There is always the danger of an intruder or a police action near your home. Your children should know what to do and how to respond.

Tips to Help Prepare
- Lock doors and windows
- Close blinds and curtains
- Turn off lights that can be seen from outside
- Remain calm and quiet
- Stay away from doors and windows
- Do not open the door except to emergency personnel (if in doubt call the police to see if they are at the door)
- Any other rules or expectations you have for your family, please communicate and practice.
